A highly wear-resistant, low-cost plastic used for a wide variety of anti-wear applications.

UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) is a very hard, wear-resistant and abrasion-resistant plastic. The versatility of polyethylene has made it a popular plastic for countless industrial applications that require durability, low friction, and chemical resistance. These applications include UHMW wear strips, chain guides, packaging machinery parts and marine dock fender pads.

UHMW specifications and material options:

UHMW Liners – UHMW liners are often used for chassis and hoppers to protect metal surfaces and maintain the smooth movement of solids such as sand, wood chips or coal.

UHMW Parts – Easy to fabricate, UHMW is also used for packaging, conveyors, and food processing machinery parts including star wheels, idler chains, and under-chain wear strips. UHMW offers very little moisture absorption if replaced with wood and is a popular choice for marine construction applications such as dock fender pads, pile guards and anti-slip walkways. UHMW does not corrode, rot, or chip like wood. It also has high abrasion resistance and low slippage properties for food and beverage processing. Several different grades of UHMW are available including reprocessing, advanced wear and tear and FDA compliant.

Technical Note - Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene has a relatively high coefficient of thermal expansion. This may make it difficult to develop pressure tolerances on UHMW components that are subject to temperature changes.
